About Us

Our purpose is to expose more students to STEM fields and generate more diversity in said fields. SACNAS is a society of scientists dedicated to fostering the success of Chicano/Hispanic and Native American scientists – from college students to professionals – to attain advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in science. However, anyone is welcome to join and our main goal is to support science amongst students and increase diversity.

"We, the Indian people, the traditional caretakers of this landscape are the direct descendants of the first people who formed our land, our worlds during creation time.

We have always been here.

Our ancestors, prepared and became the landscapes and worlds for the coming of humans with order, knowledge and gifts embedded in the landscape.

Our ancestors, imbued the responsibility and obligation to our original instructions, guided by protocol and etiquette to be part of, take care of and ensure the welfare of the extended family and community defined in its most inclusive expression, the NATURE and to pass those teachings and responsibilities onto our children, grandchildren and many generations to come.

And to all those that live here."

USC Good Neighbors Partnership with Sacred Heart Elementary School
This year we partnered with Sacred Heart Elementary School to run our outreach program. We are planning a STEM Day at USC on April 30, 2022 where students from 1st to 6th grade will come to UPC campus and we are planning to give lab tours, and a small demo/talk about different STEM fields.

We are looking for at least 2 volunteers from each STEM field for lab tours and the STEM field exploration (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Marine and Environmental Biology, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, etc.)

If you would like to participate, please please send us an email at sacnas@usc.edu by April 8, 2022 with the following information: Name, Department and event(s) you would like to volunteer for (Lab Tours, STEM Field Exploration or both!)
